After a long break from concerts, since the concert with Jackfield Band at Oakengates in early April,it was really great to entertain an enthusiastic audience at St.John’s Church in Bishops Wood last night. The programme was a wide and varied one, supplemented with two piano recitals from Anne and Jade.
The church is always a delight to sing in,and on a lovely summer evening, what could be better than lifting the rafters with a range of uplifting music with some new items added, as well as well-loved classics from the repertoire.
We have a busy couple of weeks coming up, at St. Lawrence Church ,Gnosall on Saturday , July 1st, and Christ Church RC in Wellington on July 15th.
It made a big difference having Jade back with us last night-here’s hoping we can go from strength to strength in the coming months!!
At “The Place ” in Oakengates last night, a large audience was treated to an evening of excellent music, including tremendous brass from Jackfield Band , and a varied repertoire from Shinal MVC. The audience were enthusiastic in their appreciation of all the items and enthusiastic in their own participation.
Great thanks are due to The Telford Lions Club for their organisation and financial support for the event
It was really wonderful for the choir to perform in a rather different environment, and infront of a very large and welcoming audience.Hopefully they recognised that the choir does have a wide repertoire which is not typically traditional”Male Voice” in its make-up.
Last night in Shifnal Village Hall we welcomed Warley MVC who entertained us a year or so ago.
Thankfully the hall was full, despite some gloomy forecasts about ticket sales, and the audience were treated to a wide variety of choral music including joint items from the two choirs, some barbershop items from a smaller Warley group, and a couple of piano recitals for good measure.
The audience response was enthusiastic, even resulting in a standing ovation at the end!
It was really interesting for us to work with a similar group to our own, and there is no doubt that there is something special about the sound produced by a combined total of fifty voices.
Hopefully a good sum was raised for the two local charities we were supporting-Shifnal Old People’s Welfare Committee and the Live at Home Charity.
Upcoming dates include a concert with Jackfield Band on Thursday April 6th at the theatre in Oakengates, and concerts at Bishop’s Wood on June 24th, and Gnosall on July 1st .
Any new members will be very welcome!
On Saturday, March 18th at 7.30pm at Shifnal Village Hall, we are hosting Warley Male Voice Choir. We visited them a couple of years ago, and had a great night over there. Our objective has to be to fill the village hall, and hopefully enjoy a similar evening over here.We are being supported by the Co-op and are dividing our takings between ourselves and The Senior Citizens’ group and The Live at Home Charity, both of which are really deserving local causes.
Please come along and help the local community, and enjoy a great evening!!
Total money raised a fantastic..£76.50p going to Severn Hospice. Well done to all!
Many thanks to the loyal band who enthusiastically sang their way round several pubs in Shifnal last night. The evening began with a visit to Netherwood, a care home where Jim Jones, a much-valued singer, is now being looked after. Thankfully, Jim was able to help us with the singing, and be rather critical of our “timing”. We were very well received, and fed and watered.
Then it was on to the busy pubs in Shifnal itself, squeezing ourselves into The Plough, The Wheatsheaf and The White Hart in all of which we were warmly welcomed and well received We collected money for “The Severn Hospice” which will be counted, and published here later..
Once again well done to all-it is a good social outing, and crucially shows us enjoying what we do , and involving ourselves in the local community. Happy Christmas to all, and here’s hoping for a busy and successful 2017.
Great to have another local concert, well attended and enthusiastically received. It was a really impressive venue, with great historic interest, and also interesting to be accompanied by a barbershop quartet, just to see how they do things.
Many thanks to Rev.,Pippa Thorneycroft for her help in arranging the concert, and her very warm welcome on the night.
Our selection of songs was designed to show the wide range of the choir’s repertoire, and hopefully attract interest from possible recruits.
Exciting times at the moment with new sponsorship interest from the Co-op.We are hoping to be included in a national Christmas advert which involves a long day’s filming/rehearsal in Blackpool in a couple of weeks’ time, and hopefully some recording in Shifnal later.More news to come shortly!!!
Next concert in Donnington, on Friday November 18th.
