Four choirs from the Midlands North Group, staged a concert to raise funds for the Midlands Air Ambulance. The concert was performed at Alington Hall, Shrewsbury School, Shrewsbury on Saturday, 9th April, 2011 and proved to be an outstanding success, with the choirs singing to a packed and very appreciative audience.
The four choirs involved were the Shrewsbury Police Male Voice Choir, Much Wenlock Male Voice Choir, Of One Accord Mixed Voice Choir and the Shifnal & District Male Voice Choir.
Each choir had the opportunity to sing some of their own items, which displayed a very varied repertoire and then joined together at different stages in the concert to sing as a massed choir.
The concert at Alington Hall was only the second such concert that the Group had organised and they are extremely pleased with its success, particularly as it means that the Midlands Air Ambulance benefits by over £1,800. The photograph shows the handing over of the cheque by Bryan Pickering, Deputy Chairman of the Group and Lionel Gosden, Treasurer of the Group to Maria Jones the representative of Midlands Air Ambulance, at Alington Hall. Also representing the four choirs on the photograph are Marie Sibley and Helen Reynolds – Of One Accord, Douglas Crumpton and Derek Tart – Shrewsbury Police Male Voice Choir, Bryan Pickering and Lionel Gosden represented Shifnal & District Male Voice Choir and Much Wenlock male Voice Choir respectively.
Following the success of this venture, the Group is not intending to rest on its laurels and is now looking to some form of follow up event.
